About the event

THIS IS A 2-DAY WORKSHOP.

Learn the technique of Mosaic known as Picassiette (or Pique Assiette). This is the use of broken dishes in Mosaic art. It can create wonderful whimsical art as well as showcase historical or sometimes sentimental items in your art. This is a great way to repurpose items that may otherwise be thrown in the trash or sit on the shelves of the thrift store.

In this workshop, I will teach you the tools and materials involved and you will get to work allowing your pattern or image to evolve. We have a large selection of tile to choose from and you are welcome to bring in any dishes that you may have to use or share.

Mosac is a 2 day process. Your adhesive will need time to dry, so we will come back for Session 2, the following week, and grout. You will leave with a finished work of art to hang and the skills for endless artful endeavors.

Dayna  Sabatino is a Stained Glass and Mosaic artist with over two decades of  experience in the craft. Trained by the skilled artisans at The Stained  Glass Garden in Berkeley, California, Dayna spent the next ten years in  the Bay Area: teaching courses and building commissioned works; performing restoration work;  and working at The Institute of Mosaic Art in Oakland with the globally  renowned mosaic artist, Laurel True.

After  returning to the East Coast, Dayna settled in Vermont. She married,  became a mother, and began teaching stained glass and mosaic techniques  at art centers throughout New England. While teaching, Dayna sensed that  the practice of art and traditional handcrafts nourished a longing in  people for creative expression and cultural connection. It became her  goal to open a studio where she could work and teach, and plant the  seeds for nurturing a vibrant, inclusive, creative community.

In  2022, Dayna opened Day Breaks Glass Teaching Studio in downtown Bethel,  Vermont. Today, it has grown into a unique maker space, offering a  variety of workshops and creative experiences for all. Students come  from all over Vermont for classes in applied arts and handicrafts,  taught in a warm and inclusive atmosphere by experienced artist  instructors.

Day  Breaks Glass Teaching Studio is a grateful recipient of grants from The  Vermont Arts Council, and a proud member of The Vermont Crafts Council  and The Stained Glass Association of America.
